Frequently Asked Questions

Do you see only children or also adults?

I prefer to only see children. I will make exceptions for adults who are parents of children under treatment as it helps me to treat the child. I occasionally accept adults who are familiar with classical homeopathy and who are a good fit for my style of practice. Please feel free to inquire.

What is the difference between naturopathy and homeopathy?

Naturopathy or naturopathic medicine is the name of a regulated health care profession in Canada. Naturopathic physcians must study for at least seven years in order to graduate, including three years of pre-medical training and four years of study at an accredited naturopathic college.

A naturopath or naturopathic pysician is trained in a number of natural health care modalities, including nutrition, botanical medicine, homoepathy, oriental medicine and acupuncture, physical therapies, lifestyle counselling, IV therapies and others. Each of those therapies are disciplines in their own right and may be practiced by other health care professionals such as medical doctors or chiropractors, doctors of acupuncture, nutritionists etc.

What can I expect from my first visit?

During the first visit Dr. Zimmermann will take a full homeopathic case with everyone. It takes an hour for children, two hours for adults. For children with behavioural issues it is often best to meet with the parents alone for 30-45 minutes initially so sensitive issues can be discussed without the child present.

Dr. Zimmermann does not necessarily prescribe on the on the first visit as more information, including tests, diet diaries and others often need to be gathered.

Why don't all naturopathic doctors specialize in homeopathy?

All naturopathic doctors have basic training in homeopathy and all will use at least some homeopathy in their practices. Prescribing for common acute conditions is quite straightforward but treating chronic and serious conditions with homeopathy requires a lot of additional training and experience.

What is the difference between classical homeopathy, modern homeopathy and complex homeopathy?

Classical, or constitutional homeopathy is homeopathy the way it was originally created by Dr. Samuel Hahnemann. Hahnemann was in favor of only using one homeopathic remedy at a time in order to clearly understand the effect of that remedy on the organism.

Why do you publish cases?

I have published some cases from my practice on this website to illustrate the scope of homeopathy, as well as the way in which I work. Cases are excellent teaching tools, even though they are anecdotal in nature. I especially like to write about successful treatments of children and animals, as these stories help to illustrate that homeopathy is more than just a placebo effect.

The case stories also point to our common humanity, our struggles and triumphs with life, the nature and mystery of health and disease and our deep connection to one another and to nature.
